Mendocino Coast
February 2007

We went to Mendocino for a few day getaway before we returned home to Maui. It happened to be over Valentine's Day!

Mendocino town
Mendocino is the turn of the century logging town and many of the buildings have been restored and it maintains the beautiful early architecture. It is now an artist area and a resort community.
Mendocino cove
Through the efforts of many people in the 60s, the headlands was saved from development and reserved as an open area.
Blue Cove
We spent our first evening and much of the next day hiking around the headlands and finding incredible bays. One was almost turquoise blue like you would expect in the tropics.

Sweetwater Inn
Had a wonderful time staying in a "Water Tower" (it is still being used for the hot tubs) at Sweetwater Inn. We took advantage of the included use of the redwood hot tubs and soaked nightly in the wonderful warm water.
Sears Tower interior
Our suite included a fireplace which Neil enjoyed lighting each night, plus an upstairs bedroom with an ocean view!
Russian_Gulch
Just north of Mendocino is Russian Gulch Park.
Caspar_Headlands
Caspar Headlands is just around the next bend.
Navarro Beach
We reached the coast at Navarro River and Beach from the inland road. However going back, we stayed on Hwy 1 driving the coast.
Cliff House and Waterfall
The views were incredible. We were amazed at this house right on the cliff with a waterfall dropping from the back yard.
Point Arena and Lighthouse
Point Arena has one of the few remaining lighthouses you can visit.
Sealions
Look at the rocks closely. See the Sealions laying on them?
From top of lighthouse
It's an amazing view from the top of Point Arena Lighthouse.

The coast in fog
The fog was moving in and out throughout the day to reveal incredible rugged coastline views!
sunset
And we end another wonderful adventure.
