February was the month for visitors this year. Dad and Jane came for their annual Maui visit and then went back to travel California for a week before returning to chilly Ohio. And my brother Warren and his bride Lauranna decide that would be a good time to visit Maui for the first time to see all of us. Warren and Lauranna arrived a few days early and we had a weekend of diving and water sports. Actually I think they were in the ocean every day of their 11 day visit. They were loving it. In this first picture, Warren is getting on his fins with me in foreground as we get ready for his first dive. Lauranna was certified already and took off with Neil to explore.Written March 2003Another morning, they enjoyed kayaking and watching the green sea turtles popping up all around them to get a breath of air. Once Dad and Jane arrived, we all went to a luauat the Wailea Outrigger Resort. We enjoyed an excellent meal and entertainment, plus whale watching from shore and a beautiful sunset. On Friday, we had a private tour of one of the telescope sites up on Haleakala. Not many people get to see the inside at Science City. It was raining up on the volcano so we didn't get to enjoy the outside views. The next day, we took a trip to Hana. The rain had been very heavy on the north side of Maui and I don't think I have ever seen the streams so full and raging. We took Warren and Lauranna on the lava tube cave wild tour. It was as good as is was a year ago for Neil's birthday. Sunday we went to church and then brunch at the Gazebo Restaurant with Peggy and Bill. Monday we were able to visit Jason and walk in Iao Valley. We got to see Quentin too but I forgot the camera that day and didn't get a picture of him with Great Grandpa. All too soon the time was up and everyone was flying off. More family news is that Quentin has moved to Portland with his mom and new stepfather. Neil got good pictures of Quentin the day before he moved. We will miss the little guy but I hope he visits Maui often. And Jason will be leaving Maui to return to California to stay with his parents and look for a job in Los Angeles.
Neil and I do work to enjoy the offerings of Maui and Hawaii. We got some new toys to keep us busy: underwater scooters. We love being about to explore new dive sites that would otherwise be unreachable shore diving. And we took a great trip to the Big Island for Neil's birthday. I have decided to take a break from working regular days at the Aquarium. I am still working on what I am going to do in my next life/job.
We expect to have new neighbors very soon. Neil's mom, Jean, and her new husband, Morley, are renting the house right next to us here in Kihei! They expect to be here half-time and hopefully moving more toward full-time residency. It will be great to have them here.
Neil and I don't have any travel plans this spring or summer but will have his daughters and friends here for the summer. Mailea and Greg (Mailea's boyfriend) plan to be here for the whole summer working to save for college expenses. Ari plans to be here for 5 weeks this summer and friend of hers will join her for part of the time. We look forward to their visits.
